Small Nonprofits Targeted for Special Assistance from The Nonprofit Center
74 Classes for Nonprofit Professionals Launch in September
(Philadelphia, PA, August 14, 2019)– As it begins its 39th year of educational programming, The Nonprofit Center at La Salle University unveils a Small Nonprofit Learning Center, focused on the needs of organizations with budgets under $250,000. The center provides educational programs and other capacity-building services to nonprofit organizations in the Greater Philadelphia region and beyond, to make them better able to compete in a world of shrinking resources and growing social problems. Beginning in September, the Nonprofit Center will offer a total of 74 classes and webinars in Philadelphia, Bucks and Lehigh Counties. Since its inception, more than 35,000 nonprofit professionals have enhanced their professional skills through The Nonprofit Center.
“Nearly 60 percent of nonprofits in this country operate with budgets under $250,000,” said Laura Otten, Ph.D., director of The Nonprofit Center. “And they are often under enormous pressure to deliver services with the barest minimum of resources,” she added, explaining why the center created the Small Nonprofit Learning Center. “Beginning with four classes on indispensable topics such as fundraising and financial management, we plan to deepen our focus on the unique needs of those organizations with the fewest resources,” Otten added.
The Nonprofit Center has also been expanding its educational offerings beyond Philadelphia, currently presenting nine fundraising classes at Northampton Community College in Bethlehem, which can result in a Certificate of Completion in Fundraising, and 10 nonprofit management courses at Bucks County Community College, Newtown, to earn a Certificate of Completion in Nonprofit Management.
“In addition to the need for in-depth knowledge in key skills such as fundraising, marketing and communications, executive and board leadership and human resources, certificates of completion are increasingly important to funders as an indication of a commitment to high performance standards,” said Otten, in explaining why the center also offers these non-degreed programs. “These series provide in-depth skills development, in addition to the bonus of continuing education units,” she added, supporting highly knowledgeable staff and boards.
The Nonprofit Center also provides customized educational experiences for nonprofits and corporations committed to the nonprofit community, as well as consulting and leadership development for nonprofit staff and boards.
Online registration for Nonprofit Center classes is available at lasallenonprofitcenter.org/.
