(May 7, 2008 -- Philadelphia, PA) – With increased competition, fewer resources, and growing demands for their services, nonprofit organizations need strong “mission-based” leadership, says author Peter Brinckerhoff. He will be presenting his innovative leadership ideas at the Sixth Annual Nonprofit Strategies Forum of The Nonprofit Center at La Salle University’s School of Business on June 3 at the Hub Cira Centre, 2929 Arch St., Philadelphia, from 8 am to noon.
Brinckerhoff will call upon the attending nonprofit leaders to accept their roles as stewards of their organizations and keepers of the public’s trust. Participants will explore his cutting-edge concepts of nonprofit organizations as mission-based businesses and how social enterprise is a reasonable risk they should take in support of their missions. According to Brinckerhoff, the result will be more mission for the money.
Brinckerhoff has devoted his career to working with nonprofit organizations, promoting the concept that a nonprofit organization is a mission-based business, in the business of fulfilling its mission. In 1982, he formed Corporate Alternatives, the first consulting and training company in the U.S. dedicated exclusively to the management concerns of nonprofit organizations.
Following Brinckerhoff’s presentation at the Nonprofit Strategies Forum, a panel of experts that includes funders, nonprofit leaders, and social entrepreneurs, will discuss whether these concepts should be applied to Philadelphia’s nonprofit community. Among the panelists will be Lisa Nutter, wife of Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, representing Philadelphia Academies, a nonprofit organization that does career-focused programming to prepare Philadelphia’s public school students for employment and post-secondary education. Other panelists include Nancy Burd, president, the Burd Group; Roger Collins, executive director, the Bucks County Opportunity Council; Lois Greco, senior vice president, Wachovia Regional Foundation; Heather Peeler, managing director, Community Wealth Ventures; David Scheck, president, NJ Community Capital and Nick Torres, president, Congreso de Latinos Unidos.
Registration for the Forum is $99 per person for Members of The Nonprofit Center at La Salle University’s School of Business and $125 for Non-Members. For more information, call 215-951-1701 or www.lasallenonprofitcenter.org/
