Best Practices in Board Governance: High impact leadership development program for nonprofit board members
You join a nonprofit board because you are passionate about the mission. But are you really prepared to make meaningful contributions to the organization you care so deeply about? And is that organization equipped to provide you with the comprehensive preparation on what makes an effective, purposeful board member of a nonprofit?
As the leading provider of education and training resources for the region’s nonprofit community, The Nonprofit Center at La Salle University is uniquely positioned to facilitate successful, resourceful nonprofit board development and leadership. Through its proven Board Leadership Program, customized to meet various audience needs and time constraints, Best Practices in Board Governance fosters a mutually satisfying relationship between the individual and the nonprofit organization being served. We also provide specific services that build the capacity of executive directors as changemakers, including executive coaching and Peer Leadership Learning Circles.
Boards also have the option of seizing the energy and vision that is generated by the Best Practices session and expanding it into a full “Day of Clarity” board retreat.
Who Needs Board Governance Training?
These signature nonprofit board leadership programs are the keys to “best in class” effective board membership, maximizing each board member’s impact and enhance the overall board experience and engagement.
They are designed for:
- Existing boards of nonprofit organizations who together are committed to enhancing their skills and capabilities to provide effective leadership and governance to their organization and its mission
- Individuals currently on nonprofit boards or aspiring to board membership who want to be more fully prepared to understand and handle the responsibilities of purposeful board membership, from legal liability to strategic planning
- Socially responsible corporations and businesses that want to develop additional leadership skills in select executives to enable them to fully represent their company as a contributing member of a community organization’s leadership team.

“On behalf of the PMMNG Board, I want to thank you for such an informative workshop. As each board member summarized their experience with words like, “informative, clarifying, focused, aligned, encouraged…”, we all appreciated the material presented and the guidance offered as we began to take a serious look at our group’s opportunity for development. We have many steps we can take next to continue the momentum you helped us begin yesterday. We are a special group and I know we are going to be stronger and be able to sustain ourselves so much better due to the foundation you have provided us.”
